Problem & business
Lyóvson.com is our family site. Every Lyóvson gets a corner of it: articles, notes, a running log of what we read, watch, listen to, play, visit and learn, and a portfolio. For now that's the two of us, Jess and me.
It's one place for everything we make and everything we're into, without handing it to a platform. Two people, two voices, one grid.
Design
Everything is a card on a fixed grid: 400-pixel units, cards that are one or two units each way, and a three-by-three layout inside every card.
The palette is in oklch (paper, ink, river blue, cedar gold, boat coral), set in IBM Plex Sans, Serif and Mono, with native view transitions so a card turns into the page it opens.
Engineering
Next.js and Payload CMS on Neon Postgres with pgvector. Search blends vector similarity with Postgres full-text and trigram matching, and falls back to text-only ranking if the embedding call fails. Changed content is marked stale by a content hash and re-embedded nightly, and related posts come from nearest neighbours.
The site is open to readers of every kind: RSS, Atom and JSON feeds, an llms.txt, an OpenAPI description and full-content JSON. A read-only preview mode checks every change against real content without writing to the database.
Outcome
Posts, notes, a growing log of activities and now portfolio case studies, all in one grid. The site you're reading this on.
What's next
An Armenian section, and room for every Lyóvson to come.
